THE SBUDAH METHOD
The common sense Soweto guide to making money in Amway
AMWAY
If you want to make it on Amway you have to face the fact that Amway is a retail company founded as a retail company with its founders as sales reps selling products. These two late guys Jay van Andel and Richard DeVos came up with a strategy to leverage their selling techniques by recruiting sales people and gave them power to recruit more and receive their commission as incentive.
In a quest to really figure Amway I went into it's history and founder's minds. As founders of this currently No 1 direct selling company in the world using mlm or network marketing method they are the most successful on top of the incentive chain. It would only make sense to go into their minds to figure out what its all about.
I listened to one of the late founders speeches as he addressed the then Independent business owners to figured what they were all about. Amway is Not only a retail sales but also a distribution company. Their strategies were designed with fairness and integrity in mind with an attitude to empower even the poorest and underprivileged person as equally as the privileged.
NETWORK 21
In comes Network 21 as a training provider. Network 21 has largely been confused with Amway becuse of its effectiveness in getting the word out there. Network 21 is not Amway in anyway but an authorised training provider founded by Jim and Nancy Dornan who are simultaneously members of Amway after branching off from the Dexter Yager training program to make their own. By the way I heard that anyone who reaches diamond status on amway is permited to do the same.
DIFFERENT INSTITUTIONS
This bring us to a point where I discuss the different institutions in this whole Amway saga. Not only are these institutions different in name they are different in approach. When Jay and Rich founded Amway there was No NETWORK 21 or YAGER program. These programs are said to have kept tried and tested formulas or methods to succeed in Amway. Although I believe that can be true it It has become obvious to me that may not be the absolute truth. With different environment, circumstance, time and culture the variables should be adapted. I have and noticed distinct differences in the thinking and approach of the founders of training providers versus the founders of Amway.
DIFFERENCES
To note a few.
Amway believes in being upfront about being an Amway distributor.
Training providers teach discreteness . This they say is to bypass the negative preconceived ideas in people minds.
I differ with training providers on this one because it makes you come out as deceptive and once you lose trust of you friends because you tried to trick them into business not only would you have lost a prospect but trust, credibility, face and friendship. This is the reason why people are so traumatized about this company. No one enjoys losing friends.
Amway teaches to avoid the hard sell
Training providers teach aggressive selling.
This again to me is a problem which will be met with resistance and resentment. No one wants to be pushed around or cornered, this triggers fight or fright instincts.
Amway emphasizes on selling products.
Training providers emphasize on building the network to the point of despising and undermining product sales.
Amway has free and almost free training
Training providers cost and arm and a leg (Tongue in cheeck) excuse the pun.
THE COMMON SENSE SBUDAH METHOD
1) Gradually explore products you can afford.
Avoid being placed under pressure to be a hundred percent user immediately, gradualy take your time to explore products bit by bit taking into consideration your budget . Amway products do not come
cheap. You can start with replacing you home care products which you would spend money on anyway worth say R100.00 a month and grow from there.
2) Be retail sales orientated.
Identify markets and match them with products. Look for people who are already using similar products. The advantage in your Amway product case as you know and everyone (even none Amway members) will tell you
"THE PRODUCTS ARE GOOD THOUGH"
Eg
Sell car wash to people who are already washing their cars
Colognes to people who use colognes
Multivitamins to health enthusiasts and ageing people.
Focus on select products you are passionate about and willing to master.
Stay visible at all times. Use Amway products and keep logos stickers and tshirts and material in plain sight whenever you can. This helps you advertise without the need to talk too much which is a major turn off and repellent.
3) Make Money from direct sales
This is where the wheel starts turning.
Set realistic Goals and targets eg R 1000 (U$100) a Month mark.
This will keep you motivated as you see the instant results.
R 1000(U$100) a month markup will mean you will have to move R 2000 ( U$ 200) worth of stock (30%) which will already mean you qualify for a bonus over and above the retail markup of R 2000 (U$ 200)
This will mean will will not have to buy Amway products attend seminars from your personal budget, relieving you of the financial stress that causes many to quit. Never under estimate the impact of R 1000 (U$100) a Month, Thats R12 000 a year. Imagine spending that on your family in December, or paying your child's school fees, buying that lounge or dining room suit you wanted or paying of that debt that caused you ulcers, stroke or sleepless nights. That alone will count in your favour as far as representing amway as a viable and sustainable business opportunity.
4) Build a team
Now that you are making money that anyone can see, it should be easier to attract business/network partners and teach them to do the same. Now that you have mastered making money from moving stock you know what to teach your network partners and as they move their stock you get a commission incentive from their moving stock for showing them the opportunity, introducing them into the business and being a good mentor and getting paid for it sounds fair enough. From my experience people will always want to copycat something that brings in money. You wont have to invite them they will ask for it or even investigate behind your back.
This is where the real power of the Amway compensation plan expresses itself because with building a team and network you can make much more that what you can directly with you two hands and feet.
5) Get education and exposure
Now that you are making money (from direct sales) you can enjoy buying seminar tickets, C,d's books at will and pleasure to your delight which will make you an even better sales person, peoples person, network builder, entrepreneur and leader. Most of network 21 material is good but comes with a bitter pill when you have to break you bank and buy it with your last cent. Its not fun reading a book on an empty stomach. That being said this will avoid up line hard sell methods to get people at seminars at all costs even at the cost of their lively hood.
6) Be realistic
Most people loose heart because they set unrealistic goals and want to become overnight millionaires. Truth is amway is not a get rich quick scheme but a business opportunities with reliable products and a powerfull duplication system which increases your chances of success. In traditional business world it is said that 95 percent of businesses fail in five years. If you want to stick around Amway set realistic target like "I want to make and extra R1000 (U$100) a month. If you hit that target you will or should have no reason to stop why would you?
7) Use attraction marketing
Dont be a pest, find a way to attract peole towards your business rather than run around after them.
Speak less and do more. use the 80/20 rule. By all means do speak by less than ususal. this you can do by:
- giving away freebies.
- silently flaunting the results eg buying a new car, entertainment system, or on holiday on Amway money
This to me is the most persuasive method. People want to see results.
- keeping Amway products brochures and stickers visible.

THE ILLUSION OF 100 PERCENT PASSIVE INCOME.
Avoid the illusion of 100 percent passive income, even the richest men in the world do spend some time monitoring and working on their investments. Its may be 1% active and 99% passive but for passive income to be sustainable it has to have the element of activity. On the Amway case, passive income is sustained by the direct sales activity. Undermine it at your own peril.
Y NOT?
One of the reason I do not see myself quiting amway is that I spend money on cleaning stuff anyway. I need extra cash anyway. I cant tell you how many times I was short of cash and found a way to sell an amway product for transport or lunch money. Conventional retail stores don't give me the same advantage and opportunity.
